Antifolate Drugs in Cancer Therapy (Cancer Drug Discovery and Development) Antifolate Drugs in Cancer Therapy (Cancer Drug Discovery and Development) This collection of cutting-edge reviews comprehensively examines the current status of novel antifolates, an important class of anticancer drugs. The distinguished contributors discuss the preclinical and clinical pharmacology of methotrexate, other dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors, 5-fluorouracil, and the new generation of antifolates-the thymidylate synthase and glycinamide ribonucleotide formyltransferase inhibitors. In addition, they review in depth the modulation of antifolate drugs, folate and antifolate transport mechanisms, polyglutamation, resistance, and drug combinations, as well as pharmacogenomics, pharmacodynamics, regulation of gene expression, and mechanisms of cell death. Antifolate Drugs in Cancer Therapy provides entré to exciting new avenues for future research and constitutes a new standard reference for all basic scientists and clinicians engaged in cancer therapeutics.

Folic Acid: Everything You Need to Know About Folic Acid (Folate, Vitamin B9) From The Latest Research: Crucial To Everyone's Health and Longevity Folic Acid: Everything You Need to Know About Folic Acid (Folate, Vitamin B9) From The Latest Research: Crucial To Everyone's Health and Longevity Folic Acid 2006 contains everything known about this crucial vitamin, and presents a good arguement that folate is the most important vitamin of all. Fully up-to-date, it is based on the latest scientific research. This book describes what folic acid is, what it does, and explains how and why it is crucial for your health and longevity. It describes folic acid's many health benefits, and the many diseases and conditions caused by a deficiency in your body. How much to take for optimum health is described. Folic Acid is clearly written in language that is easily understood by the average reader. While solidly based on peer-reviewed research, this book is a very readable, basic primer for anyone who wants the benefits of improved health and longevity. It is our humble opinion that even health professionals could benefit greatly from referring to this absolutely up-to-date summation of all relevant published research through September, 2006. Folic acid is best known for its importance in avoiding birth defects, but research in the last few years has established that it is absolutely essential for everyone's health and well-being. It is essential for the health and proper functioning of your cells and your genes. Various scientific studies claim that anywhere from 10% to 67% of us (men, women, and children) are deficient and at risk for many deficiency diseases. Young women of child-bearing age have the greatest need yet paradoxically tend to have low levels of folic acid - even after food fortification! Current research questions the adequacy of the current DRI for folate. A central theme of this book is "what is adequate?", which varies significantly and is probably different for any given reader. We help you find your optimum. A number of "scorecards" clearly and concisely summarize topics like: Diseases, What is Deficient? and What is Optimal?

The Methylation Miracle: Unleashing Your Body's Natural Source of SAM-e The Methylation Miracle: Unleashing Your Body's Natural Source of SAM-e Suddenly everyone is buzzing about SAMe, an extraordinary natural chemical we all manufacture. When SAMe levels are increased, some amazing things start happening--many people have found relief from such debilitating illnesses as depression and liver disease.

Now, based on his own revolutionary findings, Dr. Paul Frankel explains a safe, natural, groundbreaking program of supplements, diet changes, and lifestyle modification that will enhance your body's natural methylation process--the one that creates SAMe. This biochemical reaction also reduces the risk of cancer, premature aging, and heart disease, as well as protecting our bodies from harmful toxins, promoting optimum health and well-being.

Discover The Methylation Miracle today and find out how this extraordinary program can dramatically improve your health, and enhance the quality and duration of your life!

Folate and Human Development Folate and Human Development An authoritative panel of basic and clinical researchers critically reviews the latest findings on the role of folate in human development, health, and disease. Specific areas addressed include folate metabolism in zinc or copper deficiencies, choline and folate in development, animal models of folate-related birth defects, developmental toxicants potentially acting via folate perturbation, and folate's role in vascular disease in women. There are also cutting-edge discussions of genes and neural tube development, folate receptor polymorphism and the risk for neural defects, abnormal DNA synthesis and methylation with folate/methyl insufficiency, and folic acid and homocysteine as risk factors for neural tube defects.

Homocysteine: Related Vitamins and Neuropsychiatric Disorders Homocysteine: Related Vitamins and Neuropsychiatric Disorders During the last 15 years the research on homocysteine and the vitamins involved in its metabolism has become very dynamic. About 1,500 publications on the subject are now published each year. The research has long mainly focused on the association between homocysteine and cardiovascular disease, but also pregnancy complications/ fetal malformations. There is, however, an increasing interest in the connection between the homocysteine metabolism and neuropsychiatric disease with a steeply increasing number of publications. In particular, the association between homocysteine metabolism and cognitive decline/dementia attracts much interest. If simple, non-toxic homocysteine-lowering treatment with vitamins can reduce the incidence of, or delay the onset of dementia, it would have an enormous impact in societies with a rapidly increasing number of elderly at risk for dementia. This book summarises the research within the neuropsychiatric field, but also gives an overview of the underlying biochemistry and of diagnostic aspects. About 1,000 references are given. Christina Bolander-Gouaille, a pharmacist, has for over 10 years specialised in writing reviews/monographs on homocysteine and related vitamins. This is her third book in a series edited by Springer Verlag. This book, however, is written in collaboration with Teodoro Bottiglieri, who is director of neuropharmacology and senior research scientist at Baylor University, Institute for Metabolic Diseases in Dallas, USA.
